01 What we collect

Personal data

None. There is no sign-up, no login and no profile. We never ask for your name, email address, licence details or logbook.

Flight data

Departure and arrival airports, off-blocks and on-blocks times, flight level and taxi times are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted. We never see them.

Payment data

If you bought the app on Google Play, Google handled the purchase. We receive aggregate sales reports and never see your payment details.

02 What stays on your device

• Your recent calculations, held in local storage under the key nightlogHistory: the five most recent on the website, and the last 200 in the app, where they are the Logbook.
• In the app only, the flight you are entering, under the key nightlogDraft, so that leaving the app does not lose it. It is replaced every time you leave and ignored after 12 hours.
• A copy of the airport database, so the app works with no connection.
• A count of how many times you have been here, under nightlogVisits on the website and nightlogAppRuns in the app. It is a number and nothing more — there is no identifier alongside it, and it is what lets us see that people return without us having to recognise anyone.
• In the app only, the counts waiting to be sent, under nightlogUsage. A pilot is often out of signal, so they sit here until the phone is online and the app is put away. They are counters and whole numbers; nothing about a flight is ever written to this key. Switching the counts off in Settings deletes it.

These stay on your device. The airport database and your calculation history never reach us or anyone else. Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, removes them permanently — the app also excludes its data from Android's cloud backup and from phone-to-phone transfer, so your logbook does not follow you to a new device.

03 The Android app

The app calculates entirely offline. The calculation engine, the airport database and the world map are all bundled inside it, so every result is worked out on your phone with no connection of any kind. It contacts no third party at all — no analytics service, no map server, no font or icon host.

It asks for no Android permissions beyond internet access, which the system grants by default. It uses that for exactly one thing: sending the anonymous counts described below.

The anonymous counts

The app keeps a small set of counters and sends them as daily totals to our own server. No third party is involved. What travels is counter names and whole numbers — there is no message format in which anything else could fit.

What is counted:

• How many calculations a session contained, and how many times this phone has opened the app.
• How far the form got — one airport, both airports, or both plus the block times — and whether anything was refused.
• The name of a refusal message, such as “airports not selected”, and whether a block time was left invalid. Never what you had typed.
• Whether an airport was picked from the list, with the keyboard, or filled in automatically.
• Which screens were opened, whether a figure was copied, and whether a copy was refused because the form had changed.
• That something went wrong, and in which part of the app — the map, the icons, the store, or elsewhere. Never the error message, because an error message can repeat whatever the app happened to be holding.
• Which version of the app it is.

What is never sent: your airports, dates, block times, taxi times, flight level or results, anything you typed, and any identifier. There is no account, no cookie, no advertising id and no device fingerprint, so there is no way for us to tell two phones apart or to follow one over time.

Because a pilot is often out of signal, the counts wait on the phone and go out when the app is put away and a connection exists. They are added straight into a shared daily total on arrival and the message itself is discarded.

You can switch this off in Settings → Privacy. Switched off, nothing is recorded and anything already waiting on the phone is deleted rather than held. Test and development builds of the app never count anything at all.

The app's counts are kept in a separate store from the website's and are never added together: one visit to a page and one launch of an app are not the same thing.

04 The website

Two third parties are involved when you use nightlogpro.com in a browser. Neither is used by the Android app.

• Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights — anonymised performance measurements such as page load time and Web Vitals. No personally identifiable information, and no cross-site tracking. Vercel's privacy policy.
• CARTO map tiles — the results map draws its background from basemaps.cartocdn.com. As with a request to any web server, CARTO receives your IP address and the tiles requested. CARTO's privacy policy.

Everything else — fonts, icons, the mapping library, the astronomical engine and the airport database — is served from nightlogpro.com itself, so no other third party sees your visit.

Our own usage counters

Separately from the above, the website keeps a small set of daily totals on our own server. No third party is involved and nothing is shared. When you leave the page, your browser sends two numbers: how many calculations you ran, and how many times you have visited before. Both are added straight into a shared daily total and the message itself is discarded.

If the calculator refuses a form — an airport not chosen, a date in the wrong format — the name of that message is counted too, so we can see which parts of the form trip people up. It records that the message appeared, never what you had typed.

If you use the thumbs up or thumbs down under a result, that sends the direction of your vote and one further detail: whether the result was zero night time. Nothing else travels with it.

There is no cookie, no account, no device fingerprint and no identifier of any kind, so there is no way for us to tell two visitors apart or to follow anyone between visits — only to count. Your airports, times, flight level and results are never part of this, as set out in section 01. The app keeps its own counts, in its own store, described in section 03.

05 Cookies and sharing

• NightLog Pro sets no cookies.
• We do not sell, rent or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
• There is no advertising in the app or on the website.
• The app is a professional tool and is not directed at children.

06 Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on your behalf. The only data that exists is on your own device, and it is yours to clear at any time.

07 Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date beneath the title changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
